Psychology is having a serious moment in the UK.
More people are in contact with NHS mental health services than before the pandemic, and official workforce planning points toward continued expansion across mental health and the psychological professions.
For adults, the practical question is different: is there a way in without recent qualifications? A BSc (Hons) Psychology with Foundation Year may be open to adults who do not meet direct entry requirements, depending on circumstances and the admissions route. The UniStart 2026/27 course inventory includes this route in Manchester, Derby, and Sunderland, with coursework-based assessment and, for eligible Student Finance applicants, usually no tuition fees to pay upfront.
One honest note: a psychology degree on its own does not make you a clinical psychologist or therapist. Regulated roles need further training. What it can do is open people-focused paths across mental health support, education, HR, and social care.
